Little Creek - White Creek Flat Loop Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This loop hike in the heart of the Gila takes you through a wide variety of ecosystems, from mountain meadows and streams to ridges and high ponderosa parks to the roaring canyon of the West Fork, and eventually its gentle riparian woodland at the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument. From the Woody’s Corral trailhead, the Miller Spring Trail climbs 400 feet within the first mile, up the rock- stepped lava ridge to a rolling mesa of pinyon-juniper and grass.

At this point just past a stretch of rocky outcrops the trail enters the 2011 Miller Burn. The fire perimeter encompasses the route almost to Little Creek. From the rock outcropping the clear trail cuts across a grassy pinyon-juniper mesa, rising gradually to a burned-out ponderosa pine park. Rising still, the trail bends around the head of Cliff Dweller Canyon and stays on the crest of the ridge where it meets the Ring Canyon Trail. The ponderosa groves near the intersection have been cleansed by lightning fires in recent years; the grand old trees are scarred but flourishing."
