Gila Flat

Gila Flat Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"During this hike you’ll see ash?ow tuff formations and panoramic views, especially in the lower (southern) stretch. This portion of the Wilderness is lightly visited (except during the fall hunting season), so you can expect solitude, thereby enriching the wilderness experience of a long day hike traverse.

This outing is excellent for a cool spring day. The pinyon-juniper forest along the ridge provides a bit of shade yet allows excellent vistas of the surrounding countryside. In the fall, likewise, the scenery is outstanding. The ridge, however, is heavily used during hunting season, so it is advisable to wear hunter’s orange to make yourself conspicuous in the heavy cover."
