Alum Camp

Alum Camp Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This short but exhilarating hike begins with expansive vistas from the upper end of the trail. Soon colorful canyon formations come into view. The remnants of the historic cow camp and mining cave are interesting to explore. While in Alum Canyon check out the cave-like entrance to an old mine.

From the camp meander through the brush to the river and the main Gila River Trail. Despite its proximity to NM 15, the site is well insulated from the sound of the highway by the deep barrier of the canyon. Alum Camp is a pleasant day hike destination in its own right but would also make a good base camp for further exploration along the Gila River."
