Borrego - Bear Wallow - Winsor Triangle Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This hike, which uses Borrego Trail 150, Bear Wallow Trail 182, and Winsor Trail 254, is close to Santa Fe and a quick way to get the flavor of the mountains and streams of the Sangre de Cristos. It is popular with runners, dogs, and bikers, so be prepared for all kinds of company, especially on weekends.

Finding the trailhead: From Santa Fe Plaza drive north on Washington Avenue. Proceed through the intersection with Paseo de Peralta and turn right at the first light onto Artists Road, which becomes NM 475 / Hyde Park Road. Drive 8.5 miles to a parking lot/trailhead on the left side of the road (there is often overflow parking on the highway)."

My car was broken into on Monday Sept. 24th, 2007-between 11am and 12:45pm - while parked at the SF Ski Basin across from Winsor Trail.
The Local Police Never showed up, the sheriff did not show up until I was decending the Ski Hill Road (Artist Rd.)
and almost back into the downtown area. I met a sheriff on the road. She took my info and wrote up my case and while in the midst of writing up my case.TWO more people arrive whom had also had their vehicles robbed (Chamisa Trail). All of us had Broken windows Driver & Passenger front windows and cars had been ransacked and looted! The Sheriff said, this IS an EVERYDAY OCCURRENCE...I will NO LONGER hike the Ski hill trails....But on Saturday Sept 29th while deciding to hike UPPER CANYON-DALE BALL TRAILS ... we found another person that had the identical car robberies at the Paking lot at the TH of the Audubon Trail/DaleBall Trails ...so we resorted to Atalaya Trail with no Surprises!! Santa Fe Trails are REALLY getting to be a haven for criminals ... because they KNOW the AUTHORITIES WILL NOT RESPOND!! One sheriff said it "...was too much paperwork for crimes that will never be solved ..... so most officers won't follow up on the calls for help!!"
BE FORWARNED - YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN - AT GREAT RISK!!!
IF YOU DO VENTURE THE TRAULS - LEAVE NOTHING IN YOUR CAR!!!
NOTHING!!!
