Portales - Clovis Cruise Professional Review and Guide

"Credit for the contribution of this loop in eastern New Mexico goes to Ted Glasscock, a mechanic at Ace Schwinn in Clovis. Portales and Clovis lie in the sparsely populated Llano Estacado (or “staked plains”), named by the Spanish because of the numerous yuccas that looked like stakes on the prairie. The southernmost part of the Great Plains, this large expanse of land is almost featureless; and while the landscape is primarily flat and dry, you will find small hills, canyons, and mesas.

The area has a famous archaeological site, very significant in human history; a state park provides a kind of oasis in this barren desert; and you may find a stark beauty in the wide open spaces. Terrain: Generally flat with a few small hills. The biggest challenges are the wind during the spring and the heat during the summer."

Not really a bike trail. It is a route along the heavily filled debris roads. Poor route with typically high winds. Go to Ned Houk Park if you want to do some mountain bike riding in Clovis.
