La Ventana Arch-Sandstone Bluffs

La Ventana Arch-Sandstone Bluffs Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Two day hikes to the second-largest arch in New Mexico and a dramatic rocky bluff. This hike is composed of two easy hikes, one on a short trail, the other an easy cross-country route. Both visit features along a line of dramatic cliffs that mark the eastern edge of an ancient lava flow.

Since there is no formal trail, be sure to watch your route so you will have no trouble finding your way back. Be careful near the edges of cliffs and expect thunderstorms and lightning, particularly on summer afternoons. In summer these hikes can be quite hot in the middle of the day. Start early or late. The parking lot closes at sunset, though, so be sure to be heading out right afterward."
