Frisco Box Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Box canyons—gorges so steep and rugged that they become impassable— offer first-class adventures for hikers. The San Francisco River is a major stream draining the northern portion of the Gila River region, and its box canyon is a classic example.

Most of the river valley is filled with wide, grassy meadows, but at the Frisco Box, the river flows through a ridge of erosion-resistant granite. The water tumbles over the granite boulders, creating deep pools between sheer walls."
