Middle Fork/Little Bear Loop Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Aldo Leopold roamed the Gila National Forest in the early 1900s as a forest ranger, and the wild character of the landscape motivated him to develop the idea of preserving such areas as untouched by modern man.

In 1924, 755,000 acres of the Gila was set aside as the world’s first wilderness area. Although today the area is not as pristine as Leopold may have wished, the Gila has much to offer. While wild mountain scenery and abundant wildlife attract many visitors, many hikers find that the canyons of the Gila are its most appealing feature."
