Aeroplane Mesa Trail #705 Professional Reviews and Guides

"This is a quick, short route to the Middle Fork from the north, providing access to a vast array of wilderness trails and outings. The mesa, with its own interesting history, opens to wide mountain vistas along the way. The trail across Aeroplane Mesa is the shortest route into the Middle Fork.

During World War II US Army pilots on training missions would sometimes land on these remote uplands and hike down to the river to fish. The highest elevation point of the trip occurs in the first 0.5 mile from the trailhead and thereafter the trail slopes gradually to the rim of the Middle Fork canyon."
