Most excellent trip. Roadway in good condition. No shoulder. Very light traffic. Ranger station about halfway to stone arch where you can stop, cool down, get water. Road passes through a picturesque but very rugged valley. Valley floor covered with old lava flows. Sandstone bluffs on each side. Probably best to do it in the fall or spring because of the heat. Numerous side hiking trails which are marked. If you are a photographer plan to get to the arch not before noon or 1pm for the best lighting. If you continue past the arch on the same road for about 4 miles you can access a trail at "The Narrows" picnic ground that will take you to a 500 ft bluff looking down on the stone arch. Magnificent.
