Jemez Mountains Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"If one too many turquoise coyotes have howled at you in the streets of Santa Fe, put some classical music on, drive north and east through Los Alamos, and go up into the Jemez. This gorgeous country, though close to major population centers, has half a dozen fine fly fishing waters. The area was created by an enormous volcanic eruption: a blast that sent boulders and ash into the Midwest.
High peaks (over 11,000'), nutrient-rich volcanic soil, forests, and reasonably good access roads add up to one fine area. Types of Fish: Mostly brown trout and stocked rainbows. This eTrail covers the "where, when, and how" to fish in this region. You'll get a full-page map and information on the known hatches, suggested equipment to bring, and the best flies to use."
