Costilla Creek Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"Costilla Creek is a marvelous, high-elevation tailwater fishery that drains the huge Vermejo Ranch. Predominantly a cutthroat fishery, the 20' wide stream passes through stunning scenery. Although a long drive from almost anywhere, the creek gets fished regularly these days. This is understandable because the road parallels this fine water; and the walking and wading are easy.
Types of Fish: Rio Grande cutthroats (6"–15"), some pure but most hybridized with rainbows; rainbows (9"–16"); brook trout (8"–13") found only near dam. This eTrail covers the "where, when, and how" to fish in this region. You'll get a full-page map and information on the known hatches, suggested equipment to bring, and the best flies to use."
