North And South Sandia Crest/10k Trail Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"In contrast to the steep western face of the Sandia Mountains, the east side of the range gently slopes from the crest, creating less demanding terrain for hiking and cross-country skiing. The North Crest Trail offers views of both sides of the mountain, traveling along the ridge above vertical granite crags, with a short side trail leading to North Sandia Peak.
The 10K Trail, so named because it very roughly follows the 10,000-foot contour, drops through the sloping conifer forest of the east side of the range. Long-range views of the Rio Grande Rift can be found along this loop’s final segment, the South Crest Trail."
