Kitchen Mesa Trail Professional Reviews and Guides
"The Ghost Ranch area, with its naked redrock landscape, is more characteristic of northern Arizona or southern Utah than it is of New Mexico. The brick-red mudstones of the Chinle Formation—massive river delta deposits from the age of the early dinosaurs—dominate Ghost Ranch. Above the Chinle are soaring cliffs of yellow-brown Entrada Sandstone capped by gray lake deposits of the Todilto Formation. The trip to the top of Kitchen Mesa takes hikers into the heart of this wilderness of stone, leading to breathtaking views of rocks, cliffs, and Abiquiu Lake to the south."
