Mogollon Creek - Sandy Point

Mogollon Creek - Sandy Point Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This route is especially diverse from rugged canyon bottoms to the highest reaches of the Mogollon Mountains. It traverses the entire western breadth of the Wilderness with panoramic views in every direction and offers a full perspective of the aftermath of the largest wild?re in recorded New Mexico history.

Despite being mostly uphill with a lot more elevation gain, a south to north route is recommended so as to save the major payoff of this long backpack until you are near the end—the high divide of the Mogollon Range with its sweeping vistas across the entire Gila Wilderness. There is also the opportunity to observe dramatic changes in the landscape following the huge 2012 Whitewater-Baldy Fire."
