South Foothills Trail

South Foothills Trail Professional Review and Guide

"The Foothills Trail (#365) is one of the more popular trails in the Sandia Mountains because it is so easily accessed from the city limits. This section is located near the Embudo Trail, and many riders use it. Because of its lower elevation, it is a great choice for a winter ride, when many of the other trails in the Sandia Mountains are icy or snow packed.

Start: Trailhead at southern end of the parking lot. Length: 4.9-mile loop. Riding time: 1 to 2 hours. Best bike: Mountain bike. Terrain and trail surface: Packed-dirt singletrack filled with ups and downs and a few exposed sections. Traffic and hazards: Motorized vehicles are not permitted on the trail."
