Pajarito: Rx Trail Trifecta Professional Review and Guide

"Today the village of Pajarito sits just south of Albuquerque city limits. Recent developments by Bernalillo County Open Space Division include three parks, each offering a “Prescription Trail.” Prescription Trails is a program designed to promote healthy lifestyles for families. (For more info, visit Walk this route to visit the three Rx Trail sites and find out what makes each unique.

Start at the Gutiérrez-Hubbell House, built for Juliana Gutiérrez and her husband James “Santiago” Hubbell in the 1860s. The union of these powerful families boosted their collective holdings to 165,000 acres. However, it would be sold off piece by piece over the years, and the house would become a trading post, stagecoach stop, and post office. By the time the county stepped in to protect the house in 2000, the property was down to a mere 10 acres. After a decade of restoration efforts on the 5,700-square-foot adobe house, the handsome property is a slice of life on the farm during New Mexico’s territorial period. Features on-site include a cultural center, wildlife habitats, farming workshops, trails, a museum, and a gift shop."
