Fairview Memorial Park Gone But Not Forgotten

Fairview Memorial Park: Gone But Not Forgotten Professional Review and Guide

"People have been living—and dying—in the Albuquerque area for 12,000 years, so it’s difficult to pinpoint exactly when the custom of burying corpses began around here. The oldest local Anasazi burial sites date back to A.D. 500–900. Spanish camposantos in town date to the early 1700s.

The first graveyard to serve modern Albuquerque was Fairview Cemetery, now Fairview Memorial Park, established in 1881 2 miles east of the new town center. Essentially, it was a landfill in a sandhill, a simple place where people went to deposit their departed friends and relatives."
