Rancocas State Park Trails Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"When the temperature plummets, the Rancocas Nature Center is the perfect place to begin a short, brisk hike that’s guaranteed to warm the body as well as the spirit. Located in a century-old house and operated by the New Jersey Audubon Society, the center has an extensive reference library in addition to numerous please-touch exhibits of the flora and fauna of the area. It also contains a gift shop and not-tobe- missed bathrooms where you can view gorgeous outdoor murals that were painted by a fourteen-year-old boy.

If you don’t want to brave cold weather, come during spring or fall since summer tends to be buggy. More than 200 plants, approximately 150 species of birds, a vast array of trees, abundant deer, and other critters have been spotted in the various habitats found along the trail—in addition to a closeup view of Rancocas Creek. Ask for a trail guide before leaving the nature center. If you prefer picnicking before or after the hike, picnic tables are located beneath several American holly trees located just outside the building."
