Green Turtle Pond Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"The pond offers waterfowl, eagles, hawks, foxes, turtles, and an enticing island. Don’t miss this little gem! Driving down the steep, tree-tunneled, potholed road to the lake for the first time, I came around the last bend and slammed on the brakes. An island jutted out of the water a couple of hundred yards off the sunlit dirt-and-stone ramp ahead. I couldn’t wait to get my kayak into the water. There’s something about exploring islands that has always held a special fascination for me. Islands not only provide more shoreline to explore, but also visually break up a lake’s surface, creating a feeling of adventure and exploration. At the sound of my car creeping toward the ramp, a female mallard, 10 feet away, quickly escorted her brood toward dense shrubs farther along the edge; I had disturbed their tranquil swim."
