Splitrock Reservoir

Splitrock Reservoir Professional Review and Guide

"Maine-like geographic features, eagles, hawks, abundant wildlife, beavers, deer, islands galore, and clear water will entice you to return time and again to this large lake. I found the paddling heaven of New Jersey! This is the author’s #1 choice for the state. When I first visited this site in 2000, it wasn’t open to the public but plans were in place. From what I saw then from the dirt road, it was beautiful. It is now open to the public and draws paddlers from near and far. The beauty laid out in front of you from the launch is only a taste of the banquet you’ll experience. Be sure to look at the interpretive kiosk near the pit toilet at the head of the launch path. One panel provides an overview for the hiker, another tells the history of the Cobb Furnace and ruins, and another shows information for anglers. To the east, Farny State Park has two tracts of land that come close to the reservoir. Another 1,500 acres of land around the lake are owned by Jersey City, but protected by the Division of Fish and Wildlife under the Green Acres Program."
