The Torne/Osio Rock

The Torne/Osio Rock Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This moderately easy hike takes you through a cleft in the Ramapo Mountains filled with interesting geological formations.

From there it goes out to Osio Rock and the Torne, promontories with great views of the Wanaque Reservoir, the eastern Highlands, and the New York City skyline. The return trip includes a stop at the unique stone “Living Room,” complete with a fireplace and easy chairs for your comfort."

This has to be one of my favorite shorter hikes in NJ. The views are amazing and the rock scrambles are just plain fun. We did the lollipop loop starting on the Hewitt Butler trail through Torne Mountain and out to Osio Rock, then back along the Torne Trail. It was more difficult than this guide suggests, however, the views are well worth it. Be sure to find the Stone Living Room just off the main trail and stop at the Otter Hole just east the parking lot- a set of small waterfalls with shallow waters to dip your feet in!
