The Glades Wildlife Refuge has deemed each trail appropriate for intermediate to advanced paddlers under calm conditions. The trails are tidal, so water flow can be quite strong with the tide and wind. There are a minimal number of access points to the trails, so once you’re out there, you’re fairly committed to the entire trail. Be sure to check the weather and tides before you head out. The New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife asks that everyone leave a copy of their float plan and expected finish time on the dashboard of their vehicle. They also ask that in an emergency you stay with your boat. It is nearly impossible to walk through the marsh. There are no fees to paddle in the refuge and there are no restroom facilities at the launches.
