Scherman-Hoffman Sanctuaries: Dogwood Trail Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"The ridges and valleys in this area, formed approximately 600 million years ago, were just what Gen. George Washington was looking for. Because the ridges didn’t have any natural passes, the enemy could be spotted in the distance, which gave the troops plenty of advance warning.
Today, this hike leads through lush woods and an old farm field loaded with butterflies, wildflowers, and woodchucks as well as along the banks of the Passaic River. Deer, especially active an hour before sunset, are abundant."
