"The rolling terrain of this densely forested county park provides a pretty fair workout over a modest amount of miles. Much of the land is covered by mountain laurel, which breaks into blankets of pink blossoms in early June. For far-reaching views of the Navesink River, consider visiting in late autumn through early spring, when the broad mix of hardwood trees is bare of leaves."

"The Grand Tour Trail is a dream on canine and human feet. The soft loam underfoot feels as if you are walking on air. Hartshorne Woods contains everything you need in a hike—gentle hills with dramatic vegetation, diverse habitats, up-close wildlife, which will keep Spike busy sniffing, and surprises along the way. It is a fun, made-to-order, no-excuses hike that will keep your dog happy and in shape. The park map calls the Grand Tour challenging, but if your dog is used to hiking the rocky northern trails, it is a breeze and a pleasure."

Really enjoyed this one. Only went on one of the trails, which I liked, but I especially enjoyed the tour of the small Wildflower Island. It is only accessible with a guide, so you should call the Nature Center in advance to reserve a spot and see if the flowers are in bloom. Our guide Kathy was very knowledgeable and it was really fun to learn all the different kinds of ferns, shrubs and wildflowers :)

We like this trail. The trails can vary in difficulty. We hike a few of them and found the very enjoyable. This hiking area needs more people to hike it. The main trail is the lake loop, but there are many trails to hike. This hike is fun.
