Old Guard Trail

Old Guard Trail Professional Review and Guide

"This rugged hike in Camp Glen Gray in Mahwah has a lot of inducements for a visit by you and your dog in every season. Winter is special in these quiet woods, when bare trees afford great views on the ridges.

The mountains provide protection from wind, and continuous ups and downs over the assemblage of hills in the Ramapo Mountains make this hike an aerobic adventure that will keep both you and your dog plenty warm. Expect a lot of camping groups in the summer, although wildflowers, such as prickly pear and pale corydalis tucked among outcrops, are a delight to see then."

Enjoyed hike very much. Leaves were not on the trees so we had great views. Trail guide says 6 hours and 6 miles. We did it in about 5.5 hours but gps says it was more like 8.5 miles. This hike is a good work out there isn't any real hard climbs just several smaller ones.
