Shark River Park Trails Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"This beautiful 588-acre family-oriented park opened in 1961 and has a lot to offer anglers as well as those who love to cross-county ski or ice skate during winter months. Best of all, it’s a great place for hiking. There are three loop trails, and this pleasant hike samples each one. The first part of the trip along the Rivers Edge Trail is demanding, but the rest of it is fairly easy.
If you’re feeling energetic you can do the various exercises at the fitness stations. The trail passes through several habitats, including a coastal river and floodplain, gravel-capped sandy hills, a cedar swamp, and several sphagnum bogs. Wildflowers are abundant here in spring, but the hike is great any season. Waterproof shoes are recommended because the trail is often wet; bring binoculars because this is a great birding area year-round."
