Lakes Carasaljo and Shenandoah

Lakes Carasaljo and Shenandoah Professional Review and Guide

"Look for waterfowl, wading birds, and freshwater marshes at these two lakes. It was a pleasure to find two nice lakes to paddle in a densely populated town that includes many industrial parks. Both lakes are fed by the South Branch Metedeconk River. Long and narrow, Lake Carasaljo is located within the 176-acre municipal park of the same name. Carasaljo derives from the names Caroline, Sara, and Josephine, daughters of businessman Joseph W. Brick, who lived here in the late 1800s. Manetta was Brick’s wife, and the smaller “lake” attached to Lake Carasaljo is named after her. Lake Manetta is not actually a lake, but an arm of Lake Carasljo that cannot be launched into. However, you can paddle there."
