Wharton State Forest—Lake Oswego

Wharton State Forest—Lake Oswego Professional Review and Guide

"Look for ospreys, ducks, wild cranberries, wild blueberries, and a drowned cedar swamp at this remote lake. In the heart of cranberry and blueberry farms, you will pass one of Rutgers University’s Blueberry and Cranberry Field Research stations on the left as you drive to Oswego Lake. Their barn-red buildings with white trim that you see as you drive to the launch are somewhat of a landmark along roads in the area. Hawks frequent the open fields, blue jays screech through the woods, and cardinals dart through the cedars. I’ve seen people fish at Lake Oswego occasionally, but I’ve never seen anyone catch anything. There’s a shaded clearing with picnic tables and swimming beach on a point of land east of the launch with a pretty view of the lake and a large portable toilet in the parking lot."
