Holmdel Park Trails Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"To capture the flavor of what the Garden State was like during the nineteenth century, stop at Longstreet Farm before or after this pleasant, short hike. This nine-acre living history farm with nature and fitness trails, playgrounds, picnic areas, a shelter with snack bar, fishing and skating ponds, a sledding hill, and an impressive arboretum make up Holmdel Park—a 347- acre site nestled in the rolling hills of suburban Monmouth County. In 1965 the Monmouth County Park System purchased the farm and adjoining land from Mary Longstreet Holmes Duncan—the sixth generation of the Longstreet family.
Preserving a page from the state’s agricultural past, the inside of an eighteenth-century farmhouse is on display, while outside horses, mules, hogs, sheep, Jersey milk cows, and other farm animals roam around. Beautiful trails meander over much of the land the Longstreet family hiked a century ago. Highlights include magnificent stands of trees, including beech, which are easily recognized by their smooth bark and downsweeping branches."
