Wawayanda Yahoo Professional Review and Guide
"Wawayanda is a beautiful 10,000-acre state park in the New Jersey Highlands. Laced with centuries-old logging roads and natural beauty, this park provides a wild and magnificent setting for mountain biking. A moderately challenging 8-mile loop trail along a road through the woods leads to a pristine forest of large rock outcrops, evergreens, hardwoods, and wetlands. Beginners will be put to the test by trails that loop around small hills, dip into creek valleys, climb rolling ridge crests, and skirt major hilltops. Gonzo gearheads, when not blasting along on some smooth doubletrack, may have time to appreciate the interesting natural arena.
Mountain bikers should bring their nonbiker friends. The park is located along the New York border in Sussex and Passaic counties. The main entrance to the park is located on Warwick Turnpike approximately 3 miles north of Upper Greenwood Lake. The Wawayanda "plateau" is not a geological plateau but rather a flat-topped mountain ridge with elevations ranging from 1,200' to 7,300'. The majority of trails described in this ride explore old wooded roads that reside at those elevations."
