Voorhees State Park Trails Professional Review and Guide

"During the Depression thousands of people were unemployed with no hope of finding a job—that is until Franklin Roosevelt created the Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC). By planting trees, constructing shelters and picnic sites, and blazing trails through parks, hundreds of people were able to make money to feed themselves and their families.

Built in 1965 by the New Jersey Astronomical Association (NJAA) on land leased from the state, it houses a 26-inch Newtonian reflector telescope, one of the largest privately owned telescopes in New Jersey. After the hike, spend the evening exploring the night sky by attending one of the skywatching programs offered year-round by the NJAA; call (908) 638-8500 for dates and times. Camping here is a pleasure for there are fifty tent and trailer sites—surrounded by lush woods—with fire rings and picnic tables, modern toilets, and showers. Group campsites are also available. For reservations, contact the park."
