Cape May Court House Loop

Cape May Court House Loop Professional Review and Guide

"Too often, historic Cape May Court House is overlooked by vacationers and bicyclists eager to get to Cape May, one of the south Jersey Shore's prime destinations. Cape May Court House is less of a tourist town than its sister community. It still has a warm, small-town character than reminds one of New England, which, by the way, is where the area's first settlers came from in the seventeenth century.

Cape May Court House also has a number of historic buildings dating back more than two hundred years, making the town a great starting point for a tour of the Cape May peninsula's central region. Things to see: Cape May Museum, Cape May County Park and Zoo, Cape May Court House."

"The Cape May area has more than Victorian charm to lure bicyclists and other tourists. On the outskirts of the town, and in Cape May Point, there is much to see and do. The ideal way to explore the Cape May area by bike is to make it a two-day affair. Leisurely ride around the town one day, then the next day complete this tour. Setting up your bicycle exploration of Cape May and its surroundings this way will allow you to spend ample time visiting the sights along the road, rather than simply riding by them. Cape May is really too special a place to try and see it all in one day.

If you do go to Cape May to bicycle during Victorian Week, make it on a weekday, if possible. That way your cycling experience should be a rewarding one, since there will be fewer cars on the roads. Things to see: Cape May Bird Refuge, Sunset Beach, USS Atlantus, Cape May Point (town), Cape May Point State Park (lighthouse, visitor center, Hawkwatch Observation Deck)."

This ride was very nice and relaxing, leave your carbon road bike at home and bring your comfort bike. Everyone is just cruising and enjoying the sun and the sights. After the ride head down to the montreal hotel restaurant on beach and madison ave. for lunch and the best margaritas in town!

WHile not following the route exactly (forgot my print-out), we had a great ride of about 30 miles on VERY flat terrain. I strongly recommend casual touring bikes for this ride as opposed to a true road bike (roads are often rough-surface and there are lots of places to stop). I would recommend this as a great casula ride to various points of interest and a planned stop for lunch. I caution that in-season might be excessively crowded with traffic, hence reducing the enjoyment. The ambitious can certinly add more miles to this rambling loop in many directions. If you want to stay in Cape May book WAY ahead - B&B's are incredibly popular and booked. Overall, this is a GREAT early-fall ride...or more correctly, a great place to ride in the early fall.

This is a great way to spend the day. I highly recommend biking around Cape May. We rented bikes in town and mostly followed this trail, which took us to Sunset Beach where we found lots of pretty stones, spider crabs etc. washed up on the beach. Then we went to Cape May Point and climbed the 199 steps to the top of the lighthouse, checked out the bird watch deck and the visitor center then biked to the State Park where the trail is easy, but beautiful with lots of dramatic climbing climatis. The longer footpath however is not fully accessible right now, so you may want to ask about that before starting out. We found a healthy lunch (custom whole wheat pitas) at the Akroteria on the main drag by the beach and stopped in at the Physick Estate - which closes early, last tour is at 3:00. We returned to Sunset Beach for the sunset and there was a wedding and a flag ceremony.
