Sussex Branch Trail Professional Review and Guide

"For thousands of years the fertile lowlands of the Great Valley of the Appalachians have supported wildlife and attracted human beings. This gently sculpted valley stretches from Alabama to New York and runs in a forty-five-mile-long, twelve-mile-wide, diagonal swath across northwest New Jersey.

This 3.7-mile loop hike, starting on the Sussex Branch Trail and circling through Kittatinny Valley State Park, offers a chance to see plentiful deer, wild turkeys, and songbirds. The flat terrain invites families with children, and cross-country skiers."

Not much to see, but pleasant enough if you're looking for something very short and easy. Written directions on this site are no longer accurate. Some roads described as gravel have been paved and most importantly - the "Orange" trail mentioned in the text has been re-blazed in RED.

Sussex Branch Trail ( Close to Waterloo Village Waterloo Rd. Just off Rt.206 ) From my own point of view, ( male, 57 yrs. in good health ) This trail offers adventure with serenity and it's very safe, for any age ! Even if you 90 yrs. old, if you can walk without any assist, then this is the one for you and your family or friends or just you alone. If you have young children, if they can walk without any assist, this trail is perfect ! ( You can walk the whole trail or just the first 500 feet, and enjoy it ! Wildlife was great the day I was there. I saw deer, several kinds of ducks, some were nesting, a swan, a heron, several other large birds, including several turkeys, and I even watched a bever looking for his next meal. Just about the whole trail is flat and very easy to move about. I KNOW I'LL BE VISITING THE SUSSEX BRANCH TRAIL MANY TIMES !

Nice quiet area, level trails and nice for family picnics and walks. One rude ranger and some of the trails are not clearly marked.
