The Northern Presidential Range

The Northern Presidential Range Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The A.T. is followed for all but 4.1 miles of this magnificent loop around the Northern Presidential Range of the White Mountains. The loop uses the Tuckerman Ravine Trail to descend from the summit of Mount Washington—the highlight of this hike—to Pinkham Notch. The Presidentials are the highest mountain group traversed by the A.T. north of Clingmans Dome (in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, North Carolina and Tennessee).

The Trail runs above tree line for more than 8 miles of this outing. The tree line in the Presidential Range is at 4,200 feet, and above this elevation the only vegetation is krummholz (stunted spruce) and alpine plants, both of which are extremely vulnerable to foot traffic."
