Battery Seaman Loop

Battery Seaman Loop Professional Review and Guide

"The crashing of waves against the rocky shore and the invigorating smell of the sea are not elements usually associated with snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. On a trip to Odiorne Point State Park in Rye, visitors not only get a taste of the sea, but nature and history as well. The park and Seacoast Science Center sit side by side.

If the chill of winter is too cold, head inside to the exhibits to learn about Odiorne’s role in United States history, the placement of fortifications around the point in World War II, or the nature of tidepools. Perhaps your visit will coincide with a lecture, children’s story hour, or scavenger hunt. Be forewarned about snow conditions on the seacoast. A thaw can melt the snow quickly. It’s not unusual for visitors to end up walking instead of heading out on skis. Surface quality: Ungroomed, but skier tracked."

From a beginner's standpoint, this is a great trail. Although not physically strenuous, it is beautiful; especially immediately following a substantial snowfall. Walking through the newly fallen snow combined with the sight and smell of the ocean creates a truly unique experience. I would recommend this trail for any beginner as well as for families with young children. A truly great outdoor experience. I do have to emphasize that the experience will be far more enjoyable if you get out there right after a snowfall as it does not last long in coastal areas.
