Franconia Ridge and Lonesome Lake

Franconia Ridge and Lonesome Lake Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This hike begins in Franconia Notch at the junction of US 3 and the A.T. You will hike northward over Franconia Ridge, descend to Franconia Notch via the Old Bridle Path, pick up the Lonesome Lake Trail, and follow it to Lonesome Lake Hut where you will reconnect with the A.T. and hike north to Franconia Notch. This is an attractive loop hike, taking in both the splendor of Franconia Ridge and the beauty of the Lonesome Lake area.

The hike along Franconia Ridge is above tree line and passes over the summits of Mount Lafayette and Mount Lincoln. Tree line occurs at 4,200 feet; you will hike several miles across the ridge among the krummholz (stunted spruce) and alpine vegetation. Keep to the Trail to avoid damaging these very fragile plants. Franconia Ridge is exposed to sudden and severe storms. Be prepared by bringing along raingear and a warm sweater or coat."
