Looking back upon this trail and our hike, the memories seem out of character to the trail. We had a lovely time. It was a very nice trail that went up and came down. There were no great vista or lovely terrain. It was just a trail, but we had a great time. Yes there were views of the Presidential Range and of the Carter Ridge. But those vista were also available at the gas station in Jefferson. So while lovely vista were on Starr King, it doesn't warrant the hike. Had it not been for the plus 4000 rating of Waumbek, my guess is that most would turn down the trail at the top of Mount Starr King, which was the Starr of the show so to speak. But that said the hike to Waumbeck from Starr Kings went through a very peaceful and inviting stretch of forest that a ethereal benefit not spoke of in the guidebooks. So all the best and Happy Hiking, Angus and Duncan

Parking is on the S side of Rt 2, .25 mi E of Jefferson, NH and Rt 115a. Good snow, a good hike. 5 or 6 well travelled animal trails cross early. Excellent view NE from saddle between peaks. Views also SE(Presidentials) and S (Pemi).

This is one of the easier 4000 footers in NH. 4 miles to Waumbek summit. Best views are from Starr King, with the Presidential, Pemi Wilderness, even Franconias and Cannon all visible. Trail gets snowshoed frequently, so should be easy to follow.
