Gilson Pond Campground Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"Gilson Pond is the first new campground in the New Hampshire state-park system in more than 40 years—pretty exciting stuff in the camping world. The summer of 2010 was the first season it was open. The original Monadnock State Park campground is still open, but it’s available only for youth group camping during the regular season—when Gilson Pond Campground is open. Before Memorial Day and after Columbus Day, when Gilson Pond is closed for the season, the original MSP campground remains open for off-season and winter camping.
Gilson Pond Campground is indeed a gem through and through. It’s clean and quiet, most of the sites provide the deep sense of solitude that I so enjoy, and the whole campground is still within range of the entire network of hiking trails at MSP. You could reach the summit of the 3,165-foot Mount Monadnock right from your campsite (following the Birchtoft Trail, which leaves the campground just below sites A17 and A18)."
