North Percy Trail

Groveton, New Hampshire

North Percy Trail Professional Review and Guide

"The view of the Percy Peaks from Route 110 is striking. They rise like twin cones across the Upper Ammonoosuc River, but they are not identical. North Percy is the more open peak, gleaming white in the sunlight. South Percy is covered with trees. Only the route up North Percy is described here, as it is by far the more scenic summit of the two.

The hike up North Percy is fairly short on mileage, but big on vertical. In addition, the trail is washed out in sections and traverses a lot of low-angle slab. It is fine for dogs and humans that are seasoned hikers, but this is probably not your best choice if you and your dog are just breaking in your hiking legs. That said, it has a spectacular open summit, and the climb, though steep and challenging in places, is interesting for its variety. It is best to avoid this hike when conditions are wet or icy, as the extensive rocky areas will be treacherous."
