Although well above 4,000 feet, Mount Hight is considered a subpeak of Carter Dome, rather than a 4,000-footer in its own right. Surprisingly, the taller Carter Dome has only limited views from its broad summit, whereas the top of Mount Hight is an open rocky pinnacle offering unobstructed panoramas in all directions. If you are merely interested in views, head up Hight, but if you want a scenic loop that includes a secluded mountain lake and a dramatic rocky perch, hike the entire loop.
