    West Rattlesnake Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"You will most likely have company on this hike, and for good reason. The views of Squam Lake from the summit of West Rattlesnake are absolutely astounding. With a trip to the top of under 1 mile, it is no wonder that many people flock to this trail to enjoy the sights of this spectacular lake and its many islands.

Try to go midweek or off season if you prefer a little more solitude. The flat rock slabs at the top offer the perfect spot to enjoy a snack or picnic, and the kids will relish climbing around and exploring among the ledges—use caution, however, as there are some precipitous drops."

This trail has an amazing view at the top of Squam Lake. It's a panoramic view that is just stunning. This is a very easy hike too and it's good for young kids and dogs. Like most easy hikes, there are a lot of people on the trail. It also was a bit muddy when we went but overall still very easy as it's more like a path than a trail with roots, rocks, etc. Highly recommended!

A slow steady climb through thick forest to the summit. Trail is well maintained with regular use. According to many locals this is one of their favorite hikes. Today was crystal clear and the view of Squam Lake is spectacular. Hike early if you want solitude on the summit. By 10:30 there were many families making there way up.

A nice short walk to a fabulous view - always busy. Extended the walk to East Rattlesnake to make it a little more work. All the views are at the West though.

This is beyond an easy climb in the summer, but a great workout in mid winter in snowshoes.
The trail is wide and clearly marked and ascends comfortably. It's a bit steep at the top and
can be a bit slipery on the rock faces, but all-in-all a casual climb. Great snow and great
    views from the top!
