Wesser Bald Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The spectacular views from Wesser Bald (elevation 4,627') are the highlight of this hike. In 1993, an observation deck was completed on the steel frame of the Wesser Bald fire tower. The old tower was burned by vandals in 1979. The new observation tower was funded by the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, North Carolina’s Trail Grant Program, and the Nantahala Hiking Club (with matching funds from the U.S. Forest Service’s Challenge Cost-Share Program).

From the parking area at Tellico Gap (elevation 3,850'), take the A.T. north. Head left along a graded trail that parallels the gravel road that leads to the former fire tower."

"The 360-degree view from Wesser Bald is a Carolina Appalachian Trail (A.T.) highlight. Though Wesser Bald is bald no more, an observation tower keeps the views coming. This reconfigured lookout was formerly a ranger-manned fire tower." Read more
