Falls of Yellowstone Prong

Falls of Yellowstone Prong Professional Review and Guide

"This hike visits two waterfalls situated in the nearly mile-high Yellowstone Prong valley along the Blue Ridge Parkway. The pair of cataracts each exceeds 40 feet. Along the hike you will experience a medley of landscapes, from meadows to hardwood forests to dense brush thickets to naked rock slabs. The busy and popular hike first leads to Lower Falls, accessed by stairs aplenty.

The two cataracts on this hike—Lower Falls and Upper Falls—are part of the greater Graveyard Fields, a major attraction of the Pisgah National Forest, just off the Blue Ridge Parkway. I think Upper Falls is more impressive of the two cataracts, despite being less visited, as Lower Falls is so close to the trailhead. Nevertheless, the entirety of the upper Yellowstone Prong valley is a continual visual cornucopia."
