Lake Norman State Park: Itusi Trail-Laurel Loop Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"The Laurel Loop is part of the great 30-plus- mile Itusi Trail and explores the eastern boundary of the property, just inside the park entrance. The trail is used by both mountain bikers and hikers. It travels mostly within the confines of a mixed upland forest comprising oak, beech, maple, and pine. However, the path does traverse some exposed terrain, which parallels a power- line boundary.
The path also leads past winter views of Lake Norman and crosses several small seasonal streams that lead to the nearby lakeshore. Even though a large portion of this route is circuitous, you will not feel as if you are simply weaving within the woods. Instead, the heavy tree cover and varying terrain leave you feeling immersed by the forest. This is a terrific hike if you want to feel lost in the forest and lost in your thoughts, while remaining on a very well- marked trail."
