Lake Norman State Park: Itusi Trail-Hawk Loop, Norwood Creek Loop, and Hicks Creek Loop Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This route explores some of the most popular mountain biking/hiking trails at Lake Norman State Park. But don’t worry! Hikers are welcome, and a very well- regulated trail system helps everyone to enjoy the trail equally. The Itusi Trail is moderately graded and offers pleasant hiking and varied scenery. This route travels into the forest on the Hawk Loop and then veers west to explore the Norwood Creek Loop. From there the trail cuts inland and travels around the outskirts of the Hawk Loop.

The hike concludes by offering an optional 1.0-mile excursion to the northeast boundary of the park on the Hicks Creek Loop. This last portion of the hike also reveals glimpses of Lake Norman and the wetlands surrounding the nearby Hicks Creek. To conclude the hike, the trail returns to the Hawk Loop and travels through a predominantly hardwood forest back across the state park road to complete the loop at the Itusi trailhead. This hike has many shorter options for those unwilling to hike the entire 6.6-mile circuit."
