Mullinax Trail Professional Review and Guide

"Do you love to jump your bike and sail through the air off smooth, rounded water bars? Do you cherish those fleeting airborne moments when gravity no longer pins you to the earth? If you answered Yes! then you absolutely, positively must ride Mullinax. In 6 miles you’ll hit more than 100 smooth-lipped, knee-high water bars, most of which provide excellent opportunities for some supreme air.

Of course, those riders more fond of gravity’s embrace can simply roll over them for the finest roller-coaster action this side of Six Flags. But don’t think this is some kiddy ride because the upper section of Mullinax is a mine field of tech 4 and 4.5 root drops and erosion gullies that can chew up even the most experienced rider. In the midst of a scorching Carolina summer, the best part of the ride may just be zooming into the South Mills River at the end of the ride. Tread: 3.7 miles of singletrack; 2.3 miles of doubletrack."

Don't come here for 66 jumps or the deadly descent as described in Timm Muths book. 66 jumps is all gravel now and the deadly descent has been rerouted for erosion control. Even without these elements it's still a beautiful trail. The first climb is a killer since you coast down 66 jumps and never get a chance to warm up. There are washed out water bars to test your climbing skills, the rerouted "deadly downhill" section is now tame thanks to all of the switchbacks that slow you down. The last downhill that leads back to the river is a blast, just take your fingers off the brakes and hold on.
