Hooker Falls Trail Professional Reviews and Guides

"This quick and easy hike follows Little River downstream the entire way. It first leads to an overlook alongside the falls, before continuing downhill around a switchback and out to the rocky beach across from the delightful Hooker Falls.

This wide waterfall smoothly drops over a rock ledge the entire width of the river. The whole family will enjoy dipping their feet, or entire body, into the large inviting swimming hole at the base of the falls."

"The DuPont State Forest is one of the state’s newest recreation areas, created in 1996 from land purchased from the DuPont Company. Work on trail construction and improvement, as well as bridges, overlooks, picnic areas, and other amenities, is ongoing. The sprawling forest straddles the Transylvania–Henderson county line and lies close to the South Carolina border.

The area is pure outdoor heaven—encompassing 10,400 acres of lush forests, scenic vistas, lakes and rivers, and spectacular waterfalls. Wildlife, wildflowers, fish, and birds are also abundant, providing outdoor excitement for people as well as dogs. Hunting by permit is allowed on specific days from September through May. Check the DuPont State Forest website for the designated hunting days."

"Many people come to DuPont—the most visited of North Carolina’s state forests—to see its waterfalls, especially since Triple Falls and Hooker Falls were featured in the 2012 film version of The Hunger Games. The 10,300-acre state forest south of Brevard was established in 1996. Outdoors enthusiasts and the grassroots organization Friends of DuPont Forest played a big role in saving the area’s waterfalls in 2000, when the forest was expanded."

This trail is fairly short and flat and leads to a popular swimming hole. On a summer Friday, it was fairly crowded with swimmers and picnickers.

Very popular trail in DuPont State forest. The trail is easy to hike and on week-ends can be very crowded. Have hiked this trail numerous times.

Two nice waterfalls. Not freefall, but bulging dome ones. Lots of people. Wide jeep trail. Out and back.
