Lockwoods Folly River

Lockwoods Folly River Professional Review and Guide

"Lockwoods Folly River (also known as Lockwood Folly River) drains a small watershed in south central Brunswick County, about 25 miles southwest of Wilmington. It begins on the southeastern edge of the Green Swamp and flows south through low land. It empties into the Atlantic Ocean through Lockwoods Folly Inlet near Holden Beach.

The Intracoastal Waterway crosses just above Lockwoods Folly Inlet. During the waterway’s construction in the 1930s, water flow through the inlet was altered by diverting the original channel and dredging and widening a new channel. The coastal area has had much urban growth and development since the 1980s. This eTrail contains 2 sections of the Lockwoods Folly River from Gilbert Road (Brunswick Co. 1501) bridge to Fisherman Road (Brunswick Co. 1123) access near Varnamtown.."
