Historic Alamance County Cruise

Historic Alamance County Cruise Professional Review and Guide

"The Historic Alamance County Cruise rambles through the quiet countryside in this section of North Carolina’s Piedmont. The gently rolling landscape provides the exhilaration of coasting downhill with the challenge of gradual climbs. This cruise explores three historic sites from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Alamance Battleground commemorates the last battle of the War of Regulation, a precursor to the American Revolution.

The Alamance Historical Society includes a restored nineteenth-century manor and outbuildings with recently restored gardens. Historic Snow Camp with its outdoor dramas provides a glimpse of life for the Quakers who settled here in the mid-eighteenth century. The route also crosses Cedar Rock Park, offering a verdant respite from the rigors of cycling."

Good ride on country roads, cool history of the state. I didn’t have to deal with the dog that the other review mentioned so they may have moved. A lot of turtles crossing the road to provide a nice stop and help them along.

This is a nice 41 mile route. I was pleasantly surprised at the low amount of vehicle traffic on the route. Most roads led through rural country roads with peaceful pastures and good country views. The route is truly rolling terrain, nothing steep at all just some gradually steady climbing in the big gear. The only reason I rate this route lower is the "snarling ankle biting beasts (dogs) that will bushwhack you on Lambe Road at marker 21 mi. There are two sets of dogs one on the right and a few hundred yards further the two beasts on the left, the owners were present and unconcerned, (carry mace, club or 44mag). Otherwise the trip was pleasant after my heartrate fell back below 200 bpm!
